Mr. Porter is an American academic known for his theories on economics, business strategy, and social causes. He is the Bishop William Lawrence University Professor at Harvard Business School where he leads the Institute on Strategy and Competitiveness, studying competitiveness for companies and nations -- and as a solution to social problems.

Founded in 2018, the lab helps cities identify and implement innovative strategies to leverage public assets and fund public infrastructure for public benefit, with a focus on supporting inclusive and equitable growth. Bruce is also co-founder of New Localism Advisors, a firm that helps cities design, finance and deliver transformative initiatives.
